Research Communications: Video Editing With Premiere Pro
In this workshop we will dive into Adobe Premiere Pro for an in-depth video editing session. In addition to technical processes in editing, we will discuss the power of the editing phase; how a change in pace or using unique cuts completely change the tone and meaning of a project. Using examples from other videos and feature films, this workshop will take a holistic approach to video creation, examining how technical choices communicate meanings. We will explore how we can use cuts and point of view to reaching audiences with emotion and visual rhetoric. Although DSC workshops do not have prerequisites we highly recommend you take Video Production Basics before joining this workshop.
What you will need: The workshop will present demos from Adobe Premiere Pro, participants will not require access to the software during the workshop.
Completion of this workshop can contribute to a partial requirement of the University of Alberta Professional Development program by the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS). Information on how attendance will be recorded will be discussed in the workshop.
About the Instructors: Hanne Pearce has worked at the University of Alberta Library for twenty years in several campus libraries where her work has focused on public service, communications, and now digital scholarship. She holds both an MLIS and an MA in Communications and Technology. In the Digital Scholarship Centre, her work focuses on providing expertise and support in media production (audio, video, photography), 2D and 3D design, and specialized software programs. Junelle Mah has been with the U of A Library since 2018. A proud U of A Human Ecology alumna, she also holds a MA in Professional Communication and is currently completing a Master of Library + Information Science. Junelle is dedicated to the continuous growth and development of meaningful communication practices. From an early age she saw the importance of creating connections through visual storytelling methods that include ethnography and textile arts. Her multi-faceted work with U of A has inspired interests in user experience; specifically the role of technology to more effectively connect people with their university experience.
