Making Marbled Paper, A Hands-On Learning Opportunity
Instructors: Jeff Papineau and Michaela Stang (Bruce Peel Special Collections). Description: Beautifully-bound rare books often feature endpapers that are decorated in colourful patterns that mimic marble or other kinds of stone. These marbled endpapers add to other special design features that visually elevate some early editions over others. This workshop will begin in the reading room in Bruce Peel Special Collections, where participants will have the opportunity to examine a selection of beautiful marbled endpapers. Following this, participants will be led to a nearby space which will be set up as a temporary paper-marbling studio and everyone will have the chance to take a turn creating their own sheets of marbled paper. This in-person workshop is open only to the University of Alberta community and is capped at 8 participants so it is being offered twice.
The website for Bruce Peel Special Collections offers detailed information about this series of workshops as well as information about research and exhibitions.
