As the possibilities for powerful web services increase in complexity and richness, there is a counter-movement toward simplicity and minimal computing, where a useful website for a team or research project can be set up without the weight of backend database. This session will introduce you to Jekyll, one of the best-known platforms for this use, which is commonly used for hosting websites for free on Github Pages. This workshop will feature adding an audio transcription feature using AVAnnotate.

Objective: You will install Jekyll and create a simple website. You will then be introduced to the ways of adding functionality to a basic website: how to find resources and themes for extending the utility of your site. Note: it is advisable to have some familiarity with Git and Github if you want to work the examples.
