Designing a structured search strategy for capstone projects, theses, and dissertations in Nursing

This session will be offered via Zoom. Registrants will receive the Zoom link on the day of the session. This session will not be recorded.

Students will learn how to design a structured search strategy for use in preliminary searching to determine the feasibility and scope of systematic or scoping reviews or for completion of a narrative literature review. We will also discuss methods for refining search results - how to work with too many or too few results. This session will review PICO and PCC for identifying searchable concepts and we will also review how to combine terms using Boolean operators - AND, OR, NOT.

Students should come prepared with their research question and there will be time given to develop this question into a search strategy for use on any database. Please note, this session will be focused on research in Nursing but students from other disciplines are welcome to attend.

This session will NOT cover how to develop a systematic search appropriate for conducting a systematic or scoping review. For assistance with systematic searching check out our Systematic Reviews, Scoping Reviews, and Health Technology Assessments - Searching the Literature Guide and our asynchronous Introduction to Systematic Review Searching Workshop.
