Student Journal Peer Review Training Workshop

Student Journal Peer Review Training Workshop

Have you been thinking about being a peer reviewer with a student journal on campus but are not really sure what it entails? We can help!

This 75-minute workshop will go over the basics of the peer-review process and how to be a good peer reviewer. In the first 30 minutes we'll give you some background and cover:

  • What is peer review and why is it done?
  • What is the academic publishing process and where peer review fits in?
  • What are the benefits of being a peer reviewer and how can I become one?

In the second block, we’ll look more closely at the peer review process and what kinds of support or tools are available to you. We’ll also talk more about what makes a good peer review and work through examples of how to write good constructive feedback.

In the last 30 minutes, you’ll split off into groups based on your disciplinary interests and review a short article together. We’ll have peer mentors from that discipline (or journal) to lead the discussion and you’ll use real journals review guidelines and rubrics to assess the manuscript.
