Introduction to Special Collections for Genealogists

Introduction to Special Collections for Genealogists

Instructor: Linda Quirk (Bruce Peel Special Collections). Description: Offered at the request of the Alberta Genealogical Society (Edmonton Branch), this workshop is open to society members as well as U of A students, staff, and faculty. The mandate of special collections libraries is generally to support academic teaching and research through important collections of rare books and unpublished (or “archival”) materials, but some of these materials may also have significant potential for family researchers. Workshop participants will gain insight into the collection-building practices of special collections libraries, learning to identify collections with potential and to navigate a variety of print and digital collections.

The website for Bruce Peel Special Collections offers detailed information about this series of workshops as well as information about research and exhibitions.
