Research Communications: Digital Photography Basics (Online)

Research Communications: Digital Photography Basics (Online)

While most of us carry a camera device with us every day, how many of us actually know how to use it to its full potential? We are living in a visual world where we take and share photos every day and these images are a key part of modern communication. This workshop is designed to introduce you to digital photography at a basic level. We will cover the technical aspects of photography and also discuss the greater social aspects of photographic images. You will learn to be more critical of how you take photos, make good use of light and manual settings on a camera. You will also get a brief introduction to the creative editing of photos, and begin to consider how to preserve and share images.

The workshop is offered via e-class asynchronously, spread over 4 weeks with about an hour of work per week. This means you work through the content at your own pace. Each week there will also be a forum-style discussion to stimulate some participant interaction and a 30 min Google hangout at the end of the week, where you can drop by virtually to ask questions on the content.

The workshop runs from July 27 - August 21, 2020

What you need:

1) Either a mobile phone camera or a DSLR Camera.

2) A Mac or PC computer with either iPhoto (Mac) or the basic Photo viewer (Windows)
