Join our dashboard at: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/University_of_Alberta/UAL_Wikipedia_101?enroll=eoshpvdk The Wikipedian in Residence will deliver a short instructional session each week for this six-week series, followed by guided practise tasks for participants to try at home. Practise tasks will have enough flexibility so that UAL learners can customize to fit their interests or library portfolios.

Our learning outcomes

  1. To improve the overall quality of Wikipedia by learning how to edit pages, add citations, and new content to existing pages. Those who are interested will also have the option to learn to create a new page.

  2. To leverage staff interest and expertise while building community. Wikipedia instruction opens up a world of possibility for new learners. Thus, for folks working from home with a drastically different work day, these skills may provide opportunity to do work from home that is supporting the U of A while also being stimulating and fun.

  3. To improve discoverability of U of A Library resources. One of the aims of the Wikipedian in Residence project is to improve channels for discovery and access to online materials in the UAL collection. By empowering UAL staff to identify materials that are popular, relevant, or otherwise significant, we can leverage the popularity of Wikipedia to achieve this aim.
