1Lib1Ref Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

1Lib1Ref Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

Have you ever noticed [citation needed] in Wikipedia and wanted to learn how to fix it? The University of Alberta Library is hosting a beginner editing workshop followed by an informal group editing session to learn just that in support of the  #1Lib1Ref Wikipedia campaign.

Who is this for? Anyone with a curiosity about Wikipedia and a willingness to edit is welcome! No prior experience with Wikipedia is necessary as we will be helping with training and resources.

What to expect? We will start with a 25 minute workshop that will include a basic introduction to Wikipedia editing, followed by some time to work together editing.

What to bring? A laptop (or you can borrow one from the main desk of Cameron Library through the technology lending program).

What is #1Lib1Ref

#1Lib1Ref campaign is a Wikipedia Library-led effort to involve librarians and those that love citation in editing Wikipedia with a simple goal that every participant add a single reference to Wikipedia. Good references help substantiate the information in Wikipedia, directs Wikipedia users to additional resources and soon will help set some digitization priorities for the Internet Archive.

Can’t make the event? You can still participate in the campaign by signing up on the 2020 #1lib1ref Canadian dashboard and including  the hashtag #1Lib1Ref in your edit summary.
