The Irresistible Mystery of the Voynich Manuscript

The Irresistible Mystery of the Voynich Manuscript

Instructors: Greg Kondrak (Computing Science) and John Considine (English). Guided by two distinguished University of Alberta professors, workshop participants will examine a fine-art facsimile of the Voynich manuscript, a mysterious 15th-century codex written in an otherwise unknown collection of symbols ("Voynichese") and illustrated with other-worldly images. This is a chance to consider what can be learned about a manuscript that has, for centuries, defied numerous attempts to decipher it, and to learn about the contributions being made by groundbreaking AI research at the University of Alberta.

This series of workshops is designed to offer a wide range of hands-on and experiential learning opportunities in special collections. Everything you want to know about Peel Workshops can be found on the Bruce Peel Special Collections website here.
